Writing Treasured Stories and Memories (Adult)

You may have a desire to preserve family history... document personal accomplishments... share experiences with future generations... Maybe you are interested in writing a short memoir. This course can help you get started.  â€‹It is always important to write about what you know but it can be difficult to get inspired to start your story. Come to the course with a couple of ideas that you want to write about, your target audience, and the format you want to use to communicate your story (e.g., newsletter article, blog, poem, short story, song, digital audio/video). When you arrive, be flexible and remain open to the possibilities. If you don't know how you want to start be prepared to try different options to see what works best for you.  It is not unusual to start with one approach and decide to try another. This course can be offered in an in-person or virtual format.

Storytelling: Painting Pictures with Words (Adult, Children in Grades 3-7)  25% OFF December 14-January 12

If a picture paints a thousand words can you paint a picture with a thousand words? We all have stories to tell. The storytelling listener actively creates images and characters in his or her mind, and in a sense becomes the co-creator of the story. In this course we cover basic elements of stories (e.g., character, setting, plot, conflict, resolution) and focus on using imagery to communicate stories. We discuss strategies used by storytellers to draw the audience into the story. This course can be offered in an in-person or virtual format for adults or children.

Storytelling Writing Workshop (Children in Grades 3-7) 25% OFF December 14-January 12

Each moment of our lives is like a grain of sand in an hourglass, part of a finite supply. Each moment is unspeakably precious—once it passes, it’s gone forever, except as a dulled memory.
